Biker awarded $250,000.00

A jury of his peers awarded 31 year old Michael Muldoon, Sr. $250,000 for injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident just over three years ago. The insurance company, Aetna Insurance Company, did not appeal the award. Mr. Muldoon was operating a motorcycle northbound, when a southbound automobile made a left turn in front of him, violating his right of way. Despite his attempts to avoid a collision, Mr. Muldoon was thrown against the car. Originally treated at the Hospital for an elbow laceration, Mr. Muldoon incurred about $2000 in medical expenses over a two-year period in connection with the accident.

As a tractor-trailer truck driver and member of the Teamster’s Union at the time of the accident, Mr. Muldoon was earning more than $10 an hour. He was unable to continue driving a tractor-trailer and had to seek other employment.

Although the insurance company offered Mr. Muldoon $25,000 to settle the claim, his attorney, John Haymond, advised taking the case to court to seek compensation for Mr. Muldoon’s permanent disabilities.  The jury trial lasted seven days. Mr. Muldoon, his doctors, an economist, and two eyewitnesses testified on his behalf. The insurance company tried to claim that Mr. Muldoon was speeding and that he was drunk.

The jury returned a verdict for Mike Muldoon in the amount of $250,000.  “I have to admit that I was shocked to receive this great and award,” Mr. Muldoon said. “I’m very pleased with the verdict and especially with the performance of [attorney] John Haymond.” But, if he had a choice between the money and his health back, he’d rather have his health!

Mike Muldoon explained that he had originally sought help from an attorney who did not seem very interested in the case. “He wouldn’t even return my phone calls,” Mike added. So, he looked for another attorney- in the Yellow Pages! - And found John Haymond.

“Little did I know then that Haymond’s office concentrates on helping motorcyclists!”  “It was my first really lucky break,” he said. “John Haymond and the other lawyers in his office were always available to me. They provided moral support at a time when thing were really tough for me. It just seemed like they genuinely cared about me."  “And just as important, they did a great job. Their investigators located a witness to the accident, and they were always on top of the case.  John Haymond made me feel like I was important.”

Mike’s pain has subsided and he has adapted to his disability. He bought a brand new Harley Davidson FLHT and has returned to the Teamsters Union working as a Business Manager.
