Hot News:
The jury speaks...loud and clear
A $30,000 offer to settle Madeline Carbone's case was rejected and, after trial, a verdict was awarded in excess of $314,000.00. In June 1993, an engine was installed in Madeline's car. As a result of the repair, Madeline's radiator overheated and the car engine exploded, causing severe burns to the right side of her face, neck and shoulder. Madeline was left with permanent severe scarring. The case was particularly complex because there were three defendants involved; the dealership where the vehicle was originally purchased, the repair shop where the engine was installed, and the mechanic who actually performed the repair.

Our claim was that the engine was installed improperly. The $30,000 offer we rejected had been made jointly by the defendants, prior to trial. During the hotly contested trial, we were successful in proving negligence through the testimony of expert witnesses brought in to support Madeline's case. After a jury trial, Madeline received an award of over 10 times the amount offered by the defendants' insurance companies.
